Chromolithograph Wellington At Waterloo SAI3361
Fantastic Chromolithograph signed R. Hillingford and titled "Wellington at Waterloo" The scene is of the Duke of Wellington riding through his soldiers at dawn of the day 18th of June 1815 which marks the end of the Napoleonic Wars. Beautifully set in a white boarder and gilded frame in excellent condition ready to adorn any wall. Robert Alexander Hillingford (28 January 1828 – 1904) was an English painter. He specialized in historical pictures, often battle scenes. The image presented here is a chromolithograph, in other words a colour lithograph (based on four colours – three primary colours and black – giving a full palette of tones) a printing method precursor to the offset printing process which largely replaced it from the 1930s onwards. Once produced in large numbers, the paper support was nevertheless fragile, easily torn and sometimes even rolled up. Now there are very few examples left.
